Star Wars VIII star Adam Driver thinks the script is ‘really great’.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 32-year-old Star Wars villain revealed what he thinks of the new script… and it seems he’s rather pleased.
“I can’t wait to get on set, just because [director Rian Johnson is] so unassuming and intelligent and approachable,” he said. “The script they’ve come up with is really great.”
But what can we expect from the galaxy far, far away?
It sounds as though things haven’t changed too much…
“They’re still at war,” he joked. “It’s still Star Wars… They’re not at peace.”
Of course, Star Wars VIII marks a change of director with Rian Johnson helming the sequel as he takes over from The Force Awakens director, J.J. Abrams.
But how do the two compare?
“Their temperaments are different,” said Driver. “I feel like there was so many moving pieces in the first one – just trying to solve it and set the vocabulary for what it was. There’s a lot of that anxiety is gone, because people have developed a language.”
“I think it’s more of a testament to Rian coming into something very established and making it [his own],” he added. And after such a positive reception for The Force Awakens it looks as though there are pretty high expectations from Johnson.
But considering his sci-fi heritage, we’re sure he’s going to deliver.
Finally, Adam Driver discussed how becoming a Star Wars villain has changed his life… and it sounds as though it’s far more subtly than you might imagine.
“I didn’t turn into a new person,” he said. “Nothing happened to me. But a lot of people saw [The Force Awakens], and that was good. I guess my Christmas is kind of easier now – the toys and things for family. Kids is a big thing: I feel like before parents kept me away from their kids; now it’s like, go get a picture.”
Star Wars VIII heads to cinemas on 15 December 2017.
