After the announcement of Captain America: Civil War a number of Marvel favourites have been rumoured to appear… but will Cobie Smulders return as Agent Maria Hill?
S.H.I.E.L.D. has fallen. That much is obvious by the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But what of its agents? We’ve already seen the return of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but could the agency return in the upcoming Civil War? it looks as though Agent Maria Hill might just get an appearance.
According to Cinemex, the 32-year-old How I Met Your Mother actress will appear in the upcoming Captain America film.
“Cobie Smulders confirmed to be in #CaptainAmerica #CivilWar as Maria Hill,” they revealed. “Premiere in May 2016.”
But what does this mean for the other Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D?
Obviously, Agent Hill isn’t the only member of S.H.I.E.L.D. to appear on the big screen. And while it’s entirely plausible to see Nick Fury back behind the eyepatch, could we see good old Agent Coulson return too?
It would certainly make quite the impact after his ‘death’ in Avengers Assemble. But while we’ve no idea whether he’ll return, it looks as though Agent Hill is a possibility.
But the folks over at Comic Book Movie were quick to point out that Smulders might not be available for principal filming…
“Cobie Smulders had announced late last month that she and her husband are expecting,” they explained. “Therefore, the Canadian actress’ inclusion in Captain America: Civil War, or just the nature of her role, may be determined by the stage of her pregnancy when the movie starts shooting in Altanta, Georgia in April.”
Now, Cobie Smulders wouldn’t be the first actress in the MCU to have to fit shooting around her pregnancy. After all, Scarlet Johansson recently did just that when it came to Avengers: Age of Ultron.
But will Maria Hill really return? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But it’s certainly a possibility.
Do you think Cobie Smulders will return in Captain America: Civil War? Will the rest of S.H.I.E.L.D. join her? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
