Although Hank Pym won’t be the focus of the upcoming Ant-Man it looks as though he’s no less important… as it’s revealed that he may have helped assemble The Avengers.
That’s right folks – Hank Pym may be taking a back seat in favour of Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang, but it looks as though he plays a much more important role than we ever realised.
The creation of The Avengers back in 1963 was a major part of Marvel‘s comic book history… and history might just repeat itself as Ant-Man and The Wasp seem to have founded The Avengers.
In an interview with CNN, Evangeline Lily opened up about Hope Van Dyne – the daughter of the original Ant-Man. And it looks as though hank Pym plays a bigger part in the history of the MCU than we first thought.
“She is the daughter of the founders of The Avengers, Ant-Man and the Wasp,” Lily revealed. “She is a very talented, intelligent, capable woman and a force to be reckoned with.”
Of course, Ant-Man and The Wasp are best known for establishing the original Avengers line-up after helping Thor, Iron Man and pals to vanquish Loki. In fact, it was The Wasp who originally came up with The Avengers moniker… and it soon became the name that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes rallied behind.
But will Hank Pym found The Avengers on the big screen?
At the moment, we’re unsure whether Evangeline Lily was dropping a few details from the upcoming film, or has simply become well-read due to her role in the film. But I can’t help thinking that this would be a rather neat way of tying the MCU into the comic book universe. And if nothing else, it’s a nice Easter Egg for the fans.
Either way, it looks as though ‘Ant-Man’ is going to introduce a very different genre of film to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe – the heist movie.
“This one is very much a heist film,” she explained. “It has all the fun, tension and drama of a good heist film. The heist is being masterminded by myself, my father and Scott Lang.”
Interestingly, Evangeline Lily references herself as being one of the masterminds behind the big screen heist… and it certainly sounds as though she may play a much bigger part in Ant-Man than we first thought.
Could we see her don The Wasp suit as Paul Rudd becomes Ant-Man? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But I wouldn’t mind betting we see Lily take on a far more adventurous role than it first seemed.
Ant-Man heads to cinemas on 17 July 2015
