Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back in the upcoming Terminator Genisys sequels.
Although Genisys has long been reported as the first part of a new Terminator trilogy, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s involvement remained a mystery, That is, until now. But the 67-year-old Terminator has revealed that he will return.
During an interview with fansite The Arnold Fans, the original Terminator revealed in no uncertain terms that he will star in the entire Terminator Genisys trilogy.
Asked whether he’d be heading back to film the sequel he replied: “Yes, of course, next year.”
But what does this mean for Terminator Genisys?
Well, it’s already been confirmed that Genisys would be the first in a new Terminator trilogy… but the fate of Arnold’s old T-800 by the end of Genisys remains unknown.
Could this be confirmation that Arnie’s original T-800 – affectionately known to Sarah Connor as ‘Pops’ – will survive the events of Genisys? Or will we see yet-another Terminator sent back by Skynet?
There’s also another far more interesting possibility – that Arnie will return as a human soldier from the future.
“Another possibility is fans have always wanted to see Schwarzenegger come back as a human resistance soldier; a badass soldier who’s captured and his DNA harvested for growing a youthful replica, who is then scanned and used to model the 1984 Terminator.”
Of course, for now we’ll have to wait and see. But it looks as though the studio is keen to keep Arnold Schwarzenegger on board. And that might just mean some Terminator films that will live up to the original.
Terminator Genisys heads to cinemas on 3 July 2015.
