Aunt May actress Sally Field wasn’t so happy with The Amazing Spider-Man…
During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the 69-year-old Spider-Man actress revealed that she ‘didn’t put a great deal’ into the role of Aunt May.
Asked if she liked the movies, her response really said it all. “Not especially,” she said. “It’s not my kind of movie.” And it only goes downhill from there…
“It’s really hard to find a three-dimensional character in it,” she quipped. “You work it as much as you can, but you can’t put ten pounds of shit in a five-pound bag.”
So why did she take the role in the first place?
“My friend Laura Ziskin was the producer,” she explained. “And we knew it would be her last film, and she was my first producing partner, and she was a spectacular human.”
Thankfully, Sally Field won’t have to worry about returning as Aunt May anytime soon…
After all, the role of Spider-Man himself has already been recast, with Tom Holland set to star as the webslinger in Marvel’s upcoming Captain America: Civil War.
And let’s face it – Aunt May is going to be recast, too.
But were The Amazing Spider-Man movies really that bad?
I can’t help thinking that these harsh words seem to jump on the bandwagon of bad-mouthing Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man films. It’s almost become the popular thing to do in the wake of the Spider-Man reboot plans.
Obviously, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 wasn’t exactly a brilliant movie… but while it had many things wrong with it, it also managed to get a whole bunch of things right. And one of the highlights was Andrew Garfield.
Not to mention, the original Amazing Spider-Man was actually rather good.
Will it really be the same without Andrew Garfield and Sally Field as Peter and Aunt May?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but either way, she’s glad not to be back.
