Although nothing is known about the Batman V Superman fight scenes, it looks as though Batman is in for a rough ride in DC‘s clash of the titans…
Ever since Batman V Superman was first announced, we’ve been wondering just how the Dark Knight will be able to face off against a super-powered foe. After all, the Man of Steel is no ordinary opponent. But will heat vision and the power of flight really be enough to give Superman the edge?
According to the man behind the fight scenes, it’s more complicated than that…
During a recent interview (translated by the folks at Batman News) fight choreographer Guillermo Grispo gave us a tease of the big event – the fight between Batman and Superman.
“There’s a thought that Batman has no chance, that [Superman] will squash him like a bug,” he said. “But when you see the movie, and how it all comes out, there’s a very intelligent explanation as to why they would have a first-hand confrontation, although it seems to be totally to Batman’s disadvantage.”
It’s no surprise that Superman is thought to have a bit of an edge… and I have to admit, I’m one of the fans who thinks this fight might be a little one-sided. But then, Bruce Wayne might not have super powers, but he has plenty of gadgetry and weapons in his arsenal.
But he might have to resort to a good old fashioned brawl to get his message across…
“Batman it’s going to fight the way I’ve always dreamed seeing him fight… he’s a character so prepared in martial arts that you can do a lot of things with him,” he said. “but filmmakers usually don’t go all the way with it. Even in the last Nolan movies the action scenes aren’t very good from a technical, martial arts point of view to things like choreography, filming, bad camera movements…”
Of course, Grispo clarifies that he really is a fan of Christopher Nolan’s trilogy… but it seems he prefers Zack Snyder’s more physical approach. And you can’t really blame him – he is a fight choreographer, after all.
“Those are the kind of details that Zack, being so physical himself, loves preparing,” he explained. “I think there’s going to be a big difference when you see these Batman fights in comparison to the previous ones.”
But does Batman really stand a chance?
When it comes to a bare knuckle fist fight, I can’t help thinking that Superman still has the edge… even considering Batman’s martial arts training. But with rumours that Batman will appear in some kind of mechanical exo-suit, it looks as though he may even the odds with a bit of technical wizardry.
But will it be enough to overcome the Man of Steel? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice heads to cinemas on 25 March 2016.
