Batman is said to appear in the upcoming Suicide Squad, but it looks as though his role may be more obscure than we thought.
According to the Latino Review’s Umberto Gonzalez, it looks as though Ben Affleck’s Batman will be more of an urban myth in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie.
“According to sources, in the film Batman is some sort of big boogeyman that the government REALLY hates,” he said via Instagram. “Get this, prior to the events in #BatmanvSuperman, THE JOKER is the only one to really ever meet him or know him and that’s why [The Joker is] so important to Amanda Waller.
Of course, this certainly explains why breaking out The Joker is so important to the team… and if they need to get hold of Batman, I can think of no better trap than setting his nemesis loose on the unsuspecting citizens of Gotham.
“They have footage of Batman in action which they watch,” he added. “There is a bit of dialogue where they say Batman is the key to tracking down all ‘the supers’. Very cool stuff.”
But does this mean that Suicide Squad will take place prior to Batman V Superman?
It certainly sounds that way… if the rumour is to be believed. And it makes sense to perhaps see the events leading up to Batman hunting down the Man of Steel. But if The Joker is loose during Batman V Superman, could we see him appear in a cameo?
That’s the million dollar question… and with Jared Leto gearing up to tackle the iconic role, I think it’d be great to see him appear at the end of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Whether or not Ben Affleck will make an appearance in ‘Suicide Squad’ remains a mystery. But with events seeming to tie the DC universe together, it would be great to see the Batman in action – even if it is only on a surveillance camera.
But does this mean that the Suicide Squad will be hunting down other superheroes?
With Amanda Waller seemingly keen to get her hands on other ‘supers’ it looks as though the Justice League may not be safe. And I get the feeling this could be leading up to a rather epic clash… maybe even as part of the Justice League movie.
But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Suicide Squad heads to cinemas on 5 August 2016.
