BBC Unveils Sherlock And Watson From 2015 Xmas Special

We’ve got our first glimpse at Sherlock and Watson from the upcoming Sherlock 2015 Christmas Special… but things aren’t quite what they seem.

25th November 2014 by Ryan Leston

It looks as though we’ve got our first glimpse at Sherlock and Watson from the upcoming Sherlock 2015 Christmas Special… but things aren’t quite what they seem.

It’s been an exciting day for Sherlock fans after BBC bods revealed that work has already begun on the upcoming Sherlock special… and after revealing a tantalizing image of the episode’s script, it looks as though we’ve also got a glimpse of Sherlock and Watson suited up in period costume.

Sherlock: Series 4 Promises Tragedy

This cool new image comes just hours after the BBC revealed that read-throughs are already taking place… and with a photo of Mark Gatiss’ script, it seems that Mycroft and Sherlock might be busy getting reacquainted after the events of the series three finale.

That, or Mark Gatiss is enjoying his privileges as series co-writer.

Sherlock Script

“This is what we’ve been doing today!” said the ominous BBC Tweet. “Later on a pic of Sherlock and John as they’ll appear in the Special #221back”

Of course, this was quickly followed up with an image of Sherlock and Watson in a decidedly more period costume than we’re used to… and while Watson sports a classic moustache and bowler hat combo, it’s clear that something peculiar is afoot.

Obviously, this new outfit doesn’t exactly fit in with the modern aesthetic of the show… even if it is a rather familiar look for good old Sherlock. But while top hats and vintage clothing is the order of the day, what on earth does it mean?

Could the show be shifting into uncharted territories with a more classic rendition of the Baker Street boys? Unlikely… at least, not in its entirety.

More likely, we’ll see Holmes and Watson working undercover in an amateur dramatics society, or perhaps one of those unnerving dream sequences that Sherlock has used so effectively in the past.

Benedict Cumberbatch Cast As Doctor Strange

One thing to note – while it looks as though this could be a first glimpse of Cumberbatch and Freeman on set together, it looks as though that’s not the case. Did you spot the tell-tale crop marks on Sherlock’s shoulder? Sadly, it looks as though the boys have been photoshopped together.

But what does it all mean? Elementary, my dear Watson…

What do you think of this awesome new image? Are you looking forward to the Sherlock 2015 Christmas Special? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
