Beetlejuice fans will be pleased to know that Tim Burton is rather keen on the upcoming sequel… and has revealed that the script is already complete.
It’s been over twenty-five years since Michael Keaton first brought Beetlejuice to our screens… but while actors and director have gone on to new projects, it looks as though they’re all keen to return. And with a script ready for the sequel, it might just happen.
During an interview with Yahoo! Movies, the legendary director revealed that ‘Beetlejuice 2’ is already underway… and while the script is complete, it’s not exactly a sequel.
“There’s a script now, that I think is closer to what it could be and I’m excited about it,” he said. And it looks as though that screenplay has been written by Seth Grahame-Smith – author of ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’.
But for those hoping for a direct sequel, it looks as though that’s not quite the case…
“I wouldn’t call it so much a sequel, but it’ll have some characters,” he added. “It’s a bit too early to say but it’s definitely something that’s on my radar and something I’d love to do.”
Obviously, this is a huge step forward for the ‘Beetlejuice’ follow-up. I mean, at least Tim Burton is keen on the project. And with Michael Keaton apparently discussing the movie on a regular basis with Burton, it looks as though it’s only a matter of time.
After all, it wouldn’t be Beetlejuice without Michael Keaton.
But when will this awesome sequel happen? It’s no secret that Tim burton is a very busy man… and Michael Keaton has already admitted that their schedules rarely line up.
“Tim Burton and I have emailed about it,” he told Deadline Hollywood. “We’re both in the same situation – Neither one of us gets tired of the conversation. Tim says he’s working on something, then goes away for a while. At some point, someone is going to say we really want to do it. You don’t want to f**k it up, so it has to be perfect.”
But when will it make it to our screens? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
