Although Ben Affleck is the next big name to don Batman’s cowl and cape, it looks as though he won’t be able to keep them when he’s done… unless he’s willing to spend a small fortune.
Appearing on ‘Live! With Kelly and Michael’ to promote his upcoming movie Gone Girl, there were plenty of questions about Batman V Superman. And one of the most surprising answers came after co-host Michael Strahan asked whether he was allowed to take the Batsuit home when he’s done filming.
“I think I’m gonna get a lot of birthday party requests when this comes out,” he joked. But it looks as though he might have a hard time sorting out a costume. “I asked them, like, ‘What about maybe taking the suit home at the end of the thing?’ And they’re like, ‘For $100,000 you can.’ I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll just take a picture’.”
I can’t help wondering whether Affleck will eventually take the plunge and stump up the cash for his very own Batsuit. After all, this is the man who built his own Batcave well before he ever signed up for Batman V Superman.
It’s certainly no secret that Ben Affleck is a bit of a Bat Fan… and it surprises me that WB wouldn’t just make him his own version. I mean, even Chris O’Donnell – star of the Batman flop Batman & Robin – has been lugging around his old costume.
“When we did the movie I said, ‘I really want a costume,’ and they said, ‘Yeah, we’ll send you one,” O’Donnell admitted. “And then this truck showed up with this giant box, and I’ve literally been lugging it around for 20 years. I mean, what are you going to do with it? You’re not going to like, put it on display, like, ‘Hey guys! Have you seen my Robin costume?’ It’s absurd.”
Still, for a man who built his own Batcave, perhaps that’s exactly what Ben Affleck would do. And perhaps the odd costume selfie for Kevin Smith while he’s at it…
