British actor Ben Hardy is in talks for a major role in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse.
Although he originally auditioned for the part of a young Cyclops, it seems Ben Hardy was beaten to the role by Tye Sheridan. But that’s not the end of his X-Men story, as the actor enters talks for an undisclosed role.
According to The Wrap, the young EastEnders actor is currently in talks for a key role in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse.
“Ben Hardy is in talks for a key, as-yet-undisclosed role in Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Apocalypse,” they revealed. “Hardy was among those who tested to play Cyclops, though the role ultimately went to Sheridan. Hardy was then rumored to be up for the role of Angel, though insiders say he has been cast in another important role that is being kept under wraps.”
Of course, we’ve seen Angel on the big screen before – played by Ben Foster in X-Men: The Last Stand. But will Ben Hardy take over the role in Apocalypse? In some ways, it doesn’t really make much sense. After all, if the original continuity is still in effect, Angel might not even have been born by the time of X-Men: Apocalypse.
But then, after the time-altering events of Days of Future Past, we have to remember that The Last Stand never even happened. And Wolverine may have had far more profound effects on the X-Men timeline than we realised.
But could this be the role Ben Hardy is up for?
It’s certainly possible… and it strikes me as a rather nice fit for this particular actor. But whether or not he gets to don those angel wings remains to be seen.
Either way, it looks as though he’s a long way from Albert Square.
X-Men: Apocalypse heads to cinemas on 19 May 2016.
