It’s official – Benedict Cumberbatch is Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
Although Doctor Strange was recently confirmed in Marvel’s upcoming movie slate, there’s been very little to go on when it comes to the supernatural side of the Marvel universe. Of course, it’s been on the cards for a while… and with Scott Derrickson confirmed to direct, it’s all looking very promising. And now Marvel has found its Doctor Strange – and it’s none other than Benedict Cumberbatch.
According to Marvel, Benedict Cumberbatch has officially signed up for the role of Doctor Stephen Strange – a talented neurosurgeon who discovers the dark art of magic and alternate dimensions after a car accident.
“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said producer and Marvel head honcho, Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”
Of course, Benedict Cumberbatch has been rumoured for the role for some time.
Although many names were linked to Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme, it looks as though Cumberbatch eventually clinched it… and I can’t help thinking that while Joaquin Phoenix was linked to the role for some time, Marvel has landed the right leading man in the end.
But who will join him in Marvel’s upcoming supernatural movie?
For now, we’ve got very little to go on… and while many fans have tried to hazard a guess as to which heroes and villains will appear in Doctor Strange we’re still none the wise. So for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
But with an announcement as huge as this, I doubt it’ll be long before we get a fuller picture of Doctor Strange.
Doctor Strange heads to cinemas on 4 November 2016.
