It looks as though Bette Midler is determined to bring Hocus Pocus back to our screens in a proposed sequel… but will Disney be spellbound by the idea?
In an interview with The Mirror, the 68-year-old Hocus Pocus star revealed that she’s already approached Disney about the possibility of a sequel… but whether it happens is another matter entirely.
“You have to go to send in your cards to the Walt Disney Company,” she explained. “The ball is in their court.”
Speaking as part of a Reddit AMA, she asked her fans to get involved if they ever want to see a Hocus Pocus sequel… and I get the feeling that Disney might just get a truck load of notes from the fans.
“Inundate the Disney Company,” she said. “I have canvassed the girls [Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimi] and they are willing to do it, but we have no say in it, so if you want a Hocus Pocus 2, ask the Walt Disney Company.”
Of course, the 1993 comedy quickly became a beloved cult classic… and while it didn’t exactly do too well at the box office, it’s one of those films that might just be begging for a sequel.
Starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as three witches who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage boy, it’s a perfect Halloween treat. And Bette Midler herself revealed that it’s the most fun she’s had on a film set.
“I actually think it’s the best thing I ever did,” she told E! News. “I mean, I’ve done a lot of stuff. I’ve done a lot in my life. I’m very proud of certain roles that I’ve played.”
But can she get a Hocus Pocus sequel off the ground? We’re seeing an increasing number of reboots these days, as well as revisiting classic movies… so perhaps it’s something that Disney might be interested in.
Whether or not it ever heads to our screens is another matter entirely. So for now, we’ll have to wait and see. But if anyone can cast a spell on the Walt Disney Company, it has to be Bette Midler.
