Black Manta – the iconic Aquaman villain – could be heading to the Suicide Squad movie… as Common is rumoured for the role.
According to Jo-Blo Editor Paul Shirley, the American rapper-turned-actor could appear as the iconic Aquaman villain in the upcoming Suicide Squa film.
But is there any truth to it?
Let’s make it clear – the man himself already points out that the legitimacy of this one is rather questionable… and it could just be something being muttered around the water cooler.
But with Jason Momoa starring as Aquaman in the upcoming solo film, it might be time to start shining the spotlight on some of the character’s biggest villains. After all, a mainstream audience is unlikely to know much about the more-obscure comic book hero… let alone his rogue’s gallery.
But who is Black Manta… and how does he fit in?
Appearing in various guises throughout the comic books, it’s difficult to pinpoint an exact origin story. Often appearing as someone who was turned against the oceans and all that it represents, he most recently appeared as a member of the Suicide Squad… and it’s likely this form that we’ll see on screen.
If it happens at all.
Of course, ever since Common – otherwise known as Lonnie Rashid Lynn – reportedly joined Suicide Squad, his exact role has been subject to much speculation.
Many fans have wondered whether he would appear as a DC superhero – often citing John Stewart as the most likely candidate.
But will Common appear as a hero or villain?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but Black Manta might just be in Suicide Squad.
Suicide Squad heads to cinemas on 5 August 2016.
