It’s official – Borat 2 is an Oscar nominated movie.
And as of today, that means it could also be a Guinness World Record holder.
Maria Bakalova turned heads when she starred in Borat 2 as Tutar Sagdiyev – Borat’s teenage daughter who joins Borat’s mission to America.
Now, it seems Maria has picked up an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress in the 93rd Academy Awards 2021.
Borat 2 has also been nominated for Writing (Adapted Screenplay) with Sacha Baron Cohen lsited as the Borat sequel’s writer alongside Anthony Hines, Dan Swimer, Peter Baynham, Erica Rivinoja, Dan Mazer, Jena Friedman and Lee Kern.
And these nominations could make Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat 2 a record-breaking movie.
It’s all because of Borat 2’s official title: ‘Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan’.
Yes, it’s a bit of a mouthful, but it’s more than that.
According to the Guinness World Records, the Longest title of a film nominated for an Oscar is 85 characters – currently held by Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines.
(Note, the official title is ‘Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines or How I Flew from London to Paris in 25 hours 11 minutes’)
But Borat 2 comes in at a whopping 127 characters.
Could this mean that Borat 2 now holds the Guinness World Record for the Longest title of a film nominated for an Oscar?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see what the Guinness World Records has to say about it.
But after tallying up the length of Borat 2’s official title, it looks as though it’s a dead cert.
If that’s the case, it almost doesn’t matter whether Borat 2 wins either of its nominations or not – Borat 2 would still be an award-winning movie.
And given the year we’ve had, it feels rather fitting.
The 93rd Academy Award winners will be announced on 26 April 2021.
