After J.J. Abrams jumped ship from the USS Enterprise, it looks as though another Star Trek alumni will be joining him… as Brent Spiner signs up for Star Wars Rebels.
Although J.J. Abrams is yet to beam down any of his Star Trek friends into the galaxy far, far away, it looks as though Disney and Lucasfilm may have beaten him to it. Long rumoured to have landed a role in Star Wars Rebels, it looks as though Brent Spiner – Star Trek’s very own Mr Data – will appear in the all-new Star Wars TV show.
But who will he play?
According to the folks at Star Wars Underworld, the 65-year-old actor will appear in an upcoming episode of the hit Star Wars animated show.
“We’ve learned that Spiner will have a minor role in the upcoming episode Rise Of The Old Masters,” they explain. “Brent Spiner will voice Gall Trayvis, an exiled Senator who Hera describes as ‘the only member of the Imperial Senate with the courage to speak out publicly against the Empire’.”
First discovered by Rebel Force Radio, the interesting cameo goes some way towards bridging the gap between Star Wars and Star Trek. And it sounds as though it’s quite an interesting role.
“The character does not appear in person, or via Hologram. Rather, he interrupts an Imperial Holonet broadcast and reveals that Luminara Unduli is alive, thus setting our Rebel heroes off to rescue her.”
Of course, Spiner is no stranger to voiceover work… after all, he famously voiced The Joker in Young Justice as well as providing voice work for The Avengers cartoon, not to mention the highly-successful Robot Chicken.
But will his character Gall Trayvis return in person? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
