Supergirl has just landed another major star for the upcoming series, with Calista Flockhart signing on as journalist, Cat Grant.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 50-year-old actress has joined the CBS drama ‘Supergirl’ as journalist Cat Grant… but this time around, she won’t work at the Daily Planet.
“Calista Flockhart is returning to TV in a super way,” they explained. “The Brothers & Sisters and Ally McBeal Emmy nominee has been tapped to star in CBS’ Supergirl.”
“Flockhart will play DC Comics character Cat Grant. In CBS’ incarnation, Cat is the self-made media magnate and founder of CatCo. Cat started her career as a reporter and has built her company into a global powerhouse. [Supergirl] works as Cat Grant’s assistant.”
Of course, DC fans will recognise Cat Grant as The Daily planet’s gossip columnist… and as a potential love interest for Clark Kent, she brought a whole new slant to the Superman/Clark and Lois dynamic.
But with Superman unlikely to appear in the CBS drama, it looks as though she’s headed out on her own… and turned the trade of gossip into a huge business.
“For Flockhart, the role marks her first series regular role following her five-season run on ABC’s Brothers & Sisters as well as five-season turn on Fox’s Ally McBeal. She also has a role on DirecTV’s Full Circle season two, where actors typically do one or two episodes. She’s repped by Gersh, Industry Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman.”
Of course, as Supergirl’s boss, she’s unlikely to find out Kara’s secret… but will she be able to mentor the young superhero? Or will it be a similar dynamic to that between Clark and his own editor, Perry White?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But either way, it’s great to see Calista Flockhart back on our screens.
