Captain Marvel is beginning to take shape… as Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve start work on the film’s script.
According to The Wrap, the upcoming Captain Marvel film has landed the Disney duo to begin writing the script… and it seems they’ve got just the right women for the job.
“Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Pixar’s Inside Out) are nearing a deal to co-write “Captain Marvel” for Disney and Marvel, an individual familiar with the project has told The Wrap.”
Of course, both Perlman and LeFauve are best known for their Marvel/Disney contributions… and with Guardians of the Galaxy and Inside Out under their belts, it looks as though Marvel may be looking for a more light-hearted approach.
And I can’t help thinking that’s a good thing.
But with a writing team all-but confirmed, who will direct?
“The project doesn’t have a director yet, but TheWrap has learned that Marvel plans to hire a female filmmaker, as the comic book follows Air Force pilot Carol Danvers,” they revealed.
Obviously, this seems to fall in line with DC’s notion of hiring a female director for female-hero, Wonder Woman. But with Michelle MacLaren recently exiting the project, we all know how well that turned out.
But who will Marvel approach?
I can’t help thinking there’s an obvious candidate – Michelle MacLaren.
The celebrated director has worked on the likes of Breaking Bad and The X-Files amongst others… and most importantly, she was recently trusted to tackle DC’s Wonder Woman and was even put in charge of the script.
Of course, details about her exit remain under wraps… but with her availability suddenly opening up, it could be the deal of the decade to get her on board for Captain Marvel.
But will either parties be up for it? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Captain Marvel heads to cinemas on 6 July 2018.
