Although we’ve only seen Daredevil suiting up in black so far, it looks as though the classic red costume will definitely appear.
During a Reddit AMA, Daredevil star Charlie Cox revealed his excitement at donning the iconic costume… and we can’t wait to see how it looks.
“I love both of the suits,” he said. “Obviously it was great to involve the John Romita Jr. black ninja costume but the day I first put on the iconic costume is a day I will never forget.”
Of course, we’ve heard for some time that Daredevil will eventually feature the classic red costume… but quite how that comes about remains to be seen. Either way, it looks as though Cox is rather excited about it. And we can’t wait to see why.
But most importantly, it seems that Charlie Cox has become a bit of a Marvel fan.
“I really love the issues when Matt Murdock is defending the White Tiger,” he said. “It was so cool to read a comic book with such a compelling courtroom scene. I also have to mention Jeph Loeb’s Daredevil Yellow. So touching.”
Obviously, much of Cox’s comic book experience has come in preparation for the role… and it seems that the comic books have played a very important part when it comes to setting the tone of the show.
“The greater part of my preparation was spent reading comics,” he added. “I think you will find influence from many of the DD writers and illustrators over the years. Personally, I found Bendis/Maleev runs incredibly helpful in terms of the tone of our show.”
But will we see some of the classic characters appear on screen?
“Since I got cast in the role, I have read hundreds of comics,” he said. “There are so many great characters but some of my favorites are the following: The Punisher, The Purple Man, and Thor.”
Will any of these appear on Daredevil? Although Thor and The Punisher are rather unlikely, I can’t help thinking that The Purple Man is just inevitable. After all, David Tennant is set to bring the classic Marvel villain to life in the upcoming Jessica Jones series… and this could prove to be a great opportunity for a crossover.
“I have no idea if it could ever work in our show but I would love to see Stilt Man make an entrance,” he added. “Maybe even Jester.”
Of course, for now we’ll have to wait and see… but it looks as though Charlie Cox might just be the perfect casting choice for Daredevil.
Daredevil heads to cinemas on 10 April 2015.
