British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor is apparently up for a role in Doctor Strange but which character could he play?
Doctor Strange may have cast Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, but it looks as though casting is far from over. And with little known about the upcoming Marvel movie, there may well be plenty of roles still available.
But will Chiwetel Ejiofor nab one of them?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 37-year-old British actor is up for an unknown role in the upcoming Doctor Strange.
“Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor could join his first comic book movie,” they said. “The actor is being courted by Marvel to take on an unspecified role in the company’s ‘Doctor Strange’… and could join Benedict Cumberbatch, who is starring as the surgeon turned sorcerer supreme Stephen Strange, aka Doctor Strange.”
Of course, Chiwetel Ejiofor is best known for his role in the Oscar-winning 12 Years A Slave and is set to appear in Ridley Scott’s The Martian as well as upcoming sci-fi classic Z for Zachariah.
But does he have time for a much bigger commitment?
“Talks are said to be in the early stages, and Marvel had no comment,” they explained. “Several sources have intoned that Ejiofor is wanted for a villainous role, but some insiders have pooh-poohed that. The villain is likely to be classic bad guy Baron Mordo, a sorcerer’s pupil whose next-in-line status is usurped by Strange, thus making him the physician’s mortal enemy.”
But Mordo is likely not the only villain to appear in Doctor Strange.
With a catalogue of supernatural nasties to choose from, it’s entirely possible that Ejiofor could be up for the role of Dormammu or even Mephisto – two demonic entities who often go up against the good Doctor.
Could Ejiofor be in line for a supernatural role? Or perhaps the villainous lead of Baron Mordo? For now, we’ll have to wait and see… after all, it could be another character entirely.
