Although a Green Lantern movie is a long way off, it looks as though it may have found its hero… with Chris Pine linked to the role.
Since announcing a new Green Lantern movie in 2020, Warner Bros. has been rather quiet about this iconic DC superhero. But with a Justice League movie just around the corner, it might be about time they started looking for their next Lantern.
And it looks as though Chris Pine may be the one.
According to Latino Review reporter Umberto Gonzales, the 34-year-old Star Trek Captain may be up for the role of Green Lantern.
“HOT RUMOR! #GREENLANTERN UPDATE! The name I keep hearing & floating around, is Chris Pine for Hal Jordan,” he said via Instagram. “Yes, Captain Kirk. Again, this is still just a RUMOR hence UNCONFIRMED.”
Of course, this isn’t the first time Chris Pine has been linked to the role… and was also mentioned around the same time Ryan Reynolds landed the role of Hal Jordan in the 2010 Green Lantern film.
But has Warner Bros. reconsidered their earlier casting choice?
“Been hunting this one for a while,” he added. “So the search is still ongoing.”
Although many of us assumed that WB would take the Justice League hero in a different direction by introducing John Stewart – a black Green Lantern from the comic books – it seems they’re more inclined to reboot the story of Hal Jordan.
And after the recent Ryan Reynolds movie, perhaps Hal really needs another chance.
Of course, the solo movie is a long way off… and with a cameo in Batman V Superman thought to be out of the question, perhaps there’s not a huge rush to cast Green Lantern right away.
But according to earlier comments from the Latino Review, WB has already found their hero.
“According to sources, I’m hearing Warners has finally found their GREEN LANTERN!” he said. “This scoop is kicking my butt though because I can’t get the name… yet. Still trying to bag it. Thought I would share it with you guys. Back to the hunt & good night!”
Does this mean that Chris Pratt has already landed the role? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But I get the feeling he’d make an incredible Hal Jordan.
