Christian Bale Thought About Returning As Batman

Ben Affleck is set to appear as Batman, but former Dark Knight Christian Bale is rather jealous of his successor…

24th November 2014 by Ryan Leston

Christian Bale regrets leaving Batman behind.

Ben Affleck is now set to appear as Batman… but former Dark Knight Christian Bale is jealous of his successor.

There’s no denying it – Christian Bale was an excellent Batman. And with films such as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight under his utility belt, it’s a safe bet that he’s going to be remembered as one of the Batman greats. But should he really have retired so early? The man himself admits that a part of him wanted to stay…

Kerry Washington Rumoured For Suicide Squad

During a new interview with Empire Magazine, the 40-year-old former-Batman admitted that there was a part of him that never wanted to hang up the cape.

“I’ve got to admit initially, even though I felt that it was the right time to stop, there was always a bit of me going, ‘Oh go on… Let’s do another’,” he said. “So when I heard there was someone else doing it, there was a moment where I just stopped and stared into nothing for half an hour.”

Of course, it remains unclear whether or not Christian Bale was offered the chance to return as the Dark Knight. But either way, it never ended up happening… even if rumours suggested otherwise.

But now Ben Affleck is the new Batman, bringing him to the big screen in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. But how does Bale feel about that?

“I’m 40,” he said. “The fact that I’m jealous of someone else playing Batman… I think I should have gotten over it by now. I haven’t spoken with Ben, but I emailed him offering bits of advice that I learned the hard way. I would imagine he is doing everything he can to avoid anything that I did.”

Matt Ryan Talks Big Screen Constantine

Obviously, Bale is being a little hard on himself there… though perhaps Affleck might want to dial back the extra-gruff Batman voice. Just a tad, anyway. But will he be anywhere near as good as Christian Bale? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

What do you think of Christian Bale’s comments? Will Ben Affleck be able to top his performance? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
