Bond 24 may feature a familiar villain… and it’s a name we haven’t seen for some time.
According to The Daily Mail, the 58-year-old actor will be confirmed for Bond 24 with an official announcement… but it probably won’t be an entirely truthful one.
“Waltz’s involvement in the new film – which has the working title Bond 24 – will be confirmed at a press conference to be held in the first week of December,” they reveal. “Eon productions, which owns the James Bond film franchise, will announce the star is playing an unknown character called Franz Oberhauser, son of the late Hans Oberhauser, a ski instructor who acted as a father figure to Bond.”
Of course, this isn’t exactly the full story… and with a double-bluff that would put Bond himself to shame, it looks as though the real nature of Waltz’ character is a lot more sinister.
“Christoph Waltz is playing Blofeld in the next Bond film,” said their source. “The tone of the 007 films has changed significantly in recent years and the producers have changed the character to fit in with the new-look 007.”
That’s right folks – Blofeld might be back in the upcoming Bond sequel… and with Christoph Waltz bringing him to the big screen, it looks as though he’ll probably be getting a bit of a revamp.
Blofeld was famously portrayed by Donald Pleasance in the movie You Only Live Twice. But while he’s become the quintessential version of the character, this wouldn’t be the first time he’s had a change of face.
In fact, Blofeld has been played by a total of four different actors in the Bond films so far, including Telly Savalas and even Max Von Sydow. But will Christoph Waltz join this rather exclusive club?
It’s no secret that Blofeld recently became available to Eon productions after a long-fought legal battle… and perhaps they’re now keen to make use of the most iconic Bond villain in the upcoming movie. It certainly makes a lot of sense, and after Skyfall introduced Ralph Fiennes as a more classic version of ‘M’ it could be exactly the setup we needed for a more classic Bond movie this time around.
Unfortunately, it’s far from confirmed… so for now, we’ll have to wait and see. But I can’t help thinking it all adds up. Will SPECTRE return? That’s another question entirely.
