Upcoming sci-fi thriller Gemini Man has cast Clive Owen.
And it looks as though he’ll be facing off against Will Smith.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 53-year-old British actor is in talks to join Ang Lee’s upcoming sci-fi flick about human clonging, which sees him up against Will Smith.
“Clive Owen […] is in talks to play the head of the cloning program,” they revealed, “one of the villains of the movie.”
“[Will] Smith is playing two roles in the unique actioner,” they reveal. “One is that of Henry, an aging assassin who wants to get out of the business but finds himself in a battle with the ultimate opponent: his clone, who is 25 years younger and at the peak of his abilities.”
Tatiana Maslany, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Elizabeth Debicki are all being pursued for the female lead – an operative named Danny who’s tasked with watching Henry’s every move – but ends up teaming up with Henry to take down their employer.
And that presumably means a faceoff between Smith and Owen.
Interestingly, it sounds as though Hollywood’s increased use of de-ageing technology (as seen in the likes of Tron: Legacy and Ant-Man) will come in handy here – de-ageing Will Smith so that he can face the younger clone of himself.
It’s certainly shaping up to be an interesting project, and with Clive Owen on board, I can’t help thinking that Will Smith has a worthy adversary to go u against.
But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Gemini Man stars Will Smith, and Clive Owen.
Ang Lee will direct, based on a script by David Benioff.
