Common Joins David Ayer’s Suicide Squad

American rapper Common joins DC’s Suicide Squad.

Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad has landed yet-another cast member… as American rapper Common joins the team. But who will he play?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 43-year-old rapper-turned-actor has been cast in the upcoming ‘Suicide Squad’ movie.

“Common has closed a deal to join the cast of’ Suicide Squad’, Warner Bros.’ all-star action movie featuring DC Entertainment super-villains,” they revealed. “The story tells of imprisoned villains recruited by a government agency to perform covert operations. Details for Common’s role have not been revealed.”

Of course, Common (also known as Lonnie Rashid Lynn) is perhaps best known amongst sci-fi geeks for his appearance in ‘Terminator: Salvation’… but has also appeared in the likes of Selma and American Gangster.

But who will he play in Suicide Squad?

Unfortunately, details of his role have not yet been revealed… but that hasn’t stopped DC fans from speculating that he may not be playing a villain. After all, the villainous ranks of the Suicide Squad are already rather full. Could he be playing a hero?

This wouldn’t be the first time that Lynn has been connected to a heroic comic book role. In fact, he was slated to star as John Stewart / Green Lantern in the now defunct Justice League Mortal.

But could he be in line to pick up the role?

At the moment, we’ve heard absolutely nothing about the classic Justice League character or his upcoming return to the big screen. In fact, he’s been notably absent from most Justice League’ discussions, despite having his own solo movie slated for a 2020 release.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but either way, it looks as though Common has joined the highly-anticipated movie.

Suicide Squad heads to cinemas on 5 August 2016.

Do you think Common will play the Green Lantern? Will any other DC heroes show up in the Suicide Squad movie? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
