Confirmed: Ben Affleck Directing Solo Batman Movie

It’s finally official – Ben Affleck will direct and star in his own Batman movie.

It’s finally official – Ben Affleck will direct and star in his own Batman movie.

Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara revealed plans for a Batman solo film during this year’s CinemaCon… and confirmed that Ben Affleck will also be directing the project.

“[Batman V Superman] set up a great foundation for our DC slate, which includes at least ten movies through 2020,” he explained. “I’m also excited to know that we will be working with Ben Affleck on a stand-alone Batman movie.”

Ben Affleck Has Written A Batman Script

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the project – rumours of a solo Batman film have been doing the rounds since Ben Affleck was cast in Batman V Superman.

But now it’s finally been confirmed.

And details of his contract appear to have been revealed.

“He’s contracted to do at least Justice League 1 and 2, so at least three times wearing the cape,” said WME-IMG co-CEO Patrick Whitesell in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “There’s a script that he’s written that is a really cool [Batman] idea, so that’s out there as an option.”

And it certainly sounds like a safe bet for the studio.

Although Batman v Superman has failed to inspire the critics, it seems to be doing relatively well at the box office… although perhaps not quite as well as predicted.

But the real selling point? Ben Affleck is already proving popular.

When will we see this new Batman movie?

For now, it’s unclear. There’s been no official release date revealed, but there are two unknown DC movies slated for October 2018 and November 2019. It seems likely that the upcoming Batman film will nab one of them… and my money is on 2018 – after all, they want to hang around, considering the positive reaction to Affleck’s Bruce Wayne.

But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.

Do you think Ben Affleck’s Batman deserves a solo film? Will he be the hero we need? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
