After a thirteen-year break The X-Files will return to our screens.
Legendary X-Files actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be back as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The X-Files is returning for an all-new, six-part series. And it even sees the return of original series creator Chris Carter to helm the new episodes.
“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said Chris Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”
It’s currently unknown when the new episodes will air. But the fact that they’re being made at all is cause for celebration.
The X-Files made it big back in 1993 and ran for nine whole seasons until 2002.
Starring Anderson and Duchovny as a pair of FBI agents investigating unsolved cases and paranormal mysteries. And the cult sci-fi TV show became a huge hit.
And on top of the series, it even spawn two feature films.
“We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of The X-Files – one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers – and we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again,” said Dana Walden and Gary Newman of Fox Television.
“The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning.”
“Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as The X-Files and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”
Obviously, there’s the small matter of who will be joining Mulder and Scully when the series returns. And with a number of fan favourites in the mix, it could be an interesting way to end the much-loved series.
But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
