It’s official – Dave Bautista has joined the Blade Runner sequel.
Dave Bautista, the 47-year-old actor and former-wrestler, has signed on for the upcoming Blade Runner sequel… but who will he play?
“Dave Bautista will join Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford and Robin Wright in an important supporting role in Alcon Entertainment’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 masterpiece Blade Runner,” reads the official press release. “Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Prisoners) is directing.”
But unfortunately, his exact role is being kept under wraps.
“Story details, as well as Bautista’s character, are not being revealed.”
Of course, Bautista himself teased the news in the days before the official announcement… taking to Twitter to reveal a rather obvious clue about his upcoming sci-fi film work.
“The film is set several decades after the 1982 original, with Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role as Rick Deckard. The film is written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, and succeeds the initial story by Fancher and David Peoples based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.”
Shooting is said to begin July 2016, and will see Harrison Ford’s iconic character return.
Although Bautista’s role remains a mystery for the time being, we have to wonder… will he actually be playing one of the formidable new replicants in the Blade Runner sequel?
It certainly seems like an obvious choice, especially considering the casting of the equally formidable Rutger Hauer as the replicant ringleader Roy Batty in the original film.
Surely, Dave Bautista was born for a role like this?
A quick look at his recent work in Guardians of the Galaxy and Spectre will give you a hint as to why we think that… after all, he’s making quite a name for himself as the go-to guy when you want to cast someone with more than a bit of muscle.
But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Blade Runner 2 heads to cinemas on 12 January 2018.
