Marvel’s Jessica Jones Adds David Tennant

Jessica Jones finds its villain – The Purple Man.

British actor David Tennant has joined Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series, A.K.A Jessica Jones and it looks as though he’s going to be a bad guy.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the 43-year-old actor will appear opposite Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter in the upcoming Netflix show.

“A Time Lord is coming to the Marvel universe,” they reveal. “The studio has cast David Tennant as the major villain in its upcoming Netflix series A.K.A. Jessica Jones. The Doctor Who and Gracepoint star will play Zebediah Killgrave (aka The Purple Man).”

James Marsden Praises X-Men’s New Cyclops

Of course, the Purple Man was introduced back in 1964 as a villain in the Daredevil comic books… and perhaps that’s no co-incidence, considering that Daredevil also has his own solo Netflix series. But now it seems the Yugoslavian spy – who produces pheromones to control the will of his victims – will go head-to-head with Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.

Obviously, it’s unclear how closely Marvel will follow the comic books… but this could be the perfect opportunity to see David Tennant in full purple make-up.

“I’m so honored and excited by the prospect of David inhabiting this multifaceted character,” said Marvel producer Melissa Rosenberg. “He can deliver the most heart-wrenching moment to the driest of lines, and all points in between. He’ll make Killgrave a truly original villain.”

A.K.A Jessica Jones is just one of several new Netflix shows to debut presumably sometime this year… with Daredevil heading to our screens on 10 April 2015. Starring Charlie Cox as blind crime-fighter Matt Murdoch, the series kicks off Marvel’s small screen efforts, leading to an epic team up to form The Defenders.

X-Men: Apocalypse Won’t Star Patrick Stewart

Of course, this is a major change in role for David Tennant – becoming a series villain rather than his usual protagonist roles. Will David make an excellent villain opposite Jessica Jones? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

But as a Yugoslavian spy, he’d better brush up on his accent.

Do you think David Tennant will make a good Marvel villain? Which other villains do you want to see in A.K.A Jessica Jones? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
