DC Planning Superman Prequel Series?

Superman gets a Man of Steel TV prequel set on Krypton.

It looks as though Warner Bros. is keen to expand upon the Krypton we first see in Man of Steel… and they’ve reportedly hired David S. Goyer to pen an all-new series that delves into Kryptonian culture.

It’s no secret that Warner Bros. is rapidly expanding the DC cinematic universe… and with a number of new films slated between now and 2020, it looks as though they’re going all out in an attempt to dominate the superhero market. After the success of Gotham it seems that DC has a case of prequel fever… and they’re now planning a Man of Steel prequel show that’s apparently titled Krypton.

Cara Delevingne Rumoured For Suicide Squad

According to Bleeding Cool, the Man of Steel writer has been tapped to write a new prequel series that takes us further into the backstory of Krypton before that fateful day.

“Writer/producer David Goyer is involved in a TV show called Krypton,” they reveal, before speculating upon what it might be about. “The name suggests a pre-Superman drama set on the planet Krypton, maybe involving the House Of El, maybe Brainiac, maybe an end of the world cult, maybe lots of dragons flying around the place.”

But it seems the only concrete detail they have is the show’s name.

Of course, Goyer wrote the original screenplay for Man of Steel where much of Kryptonian technology and culture is depicted as a futuristic, sci-fi world. But is there really enough there to warrant an entire series?

If you ask me, it seems that Warner Bros. are clutching at straws. Man of Steel was highly-successful at the box office, but those Kryptonian scenes often came across as rather cheesy. An entire series based in this culture seems a tad unnecessary… but then, perhaps it will be used as a means of bringing other characters from Superman’s world into the DC universe.

Think Supergirl and Brainiac, for instance.

Either way, it’ll certainly expand the Kryptonian backstory. But can we expect a cameo from Russell Crowe or Michael Shannon? Perhaps that’s a bit too much to ask.

What do you think of this rumoured’ Superman’ TV series? Is it really necessary? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
