It looks as though Shazam! is coming… in April 2019.
That’s right folks – Shazam! heads to cinemas in just over a year.
The official release date is 5 April 2019.
The upcoming DC Comic Book Movie stars Zachary Levy as Shazam! – the superhero alter ego of the young Billy Batson. And after previously setting that date for an untitled DC film, it looks as though Warner Bros. has actually given the April release to Shazam!
And that could be a very wise move.
That particular weekend is very open when it comes to the US box office. In fact, the only other film opening around that time is the upcoming remake of Stephen King’s Pet Semetary on the following weekend – not exactly fighting for the same market, there, either.
The superhero Shazam! will be played by Zachary Levy, with Billy Batson played by Asher Angel. Billy is able to transform into his superhero alter ego by saying the word ‘Shazam!’ – essentially summoning the power of Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mecury.
Mar Strong is reportedly in talks to play the film’s villain.
Of course, with a release date just several months after DC’s next release (Aquaman in December 2018) it looks as though Warner Bros. is keen to keep its DC movies moving forward… despite a possible change of direction with the addition of new DC Movies President, Walter Hamada.
Still, it’s great to see Shazam! securing its place in the DC slate.
And we can’t wait to see how Warner Bros. tackles the old-school superhero.
Shazam! stars Asher Angel, Zachary Levi, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton and Mark Strong.
David F. Sandberg will direct the movie, based on a script by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke.
Shazam! heads to cinemas on 5 April 2019.
