Doctor Who star Arthur Darvill has landed a role in the upcoming Arrow spin-off… as the time-travelling Rip Hunter.
After appearing alongside Amy Pond as the Doctor’s companion, it looks as though Rory Williams has come a long way… but he’ll soon be time-travelling once again, as he joins The CW’s upcoming Arrow spin-off.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 32-year-old Doctor Who star has landed a role in the upcoming comic book TV show.
“Arthur Darvill, who played a companion to the Doctor in BBC’s Doctor Who, is in final negotiations to join the cast of the WB’s untitled DC Arrow/Flash spinoff show,” they said. “Darvill will play a character titled the Traveller, a cocksure time-hopping adventurer.”
But who is the Traveller?
Known as Rip Hunter in the comic books, he’s a time-travelling character who first appeared in the late 1950’s… and has been providing DC with a handy means of time-travelling their various superheroes ever since.
“There was speculation that the hero could be time-jumping Booster Gold, but The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the character is Rip Hunter, one of DC’s classic heroes created back in 1959 and the leader of a time-travelling group.”
The currently untitled series already includes Brandon Routh as The Atom (aka Ray Palmer), Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold, Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory and Victor Garber as Prof. Martin Stein. And now it seems they’ll be adding Rip Hunter into the mix.
Of course, this will be Arthur Darvill’s first role in the US… and it’s likely to be a good one. But for now, details of this new Arrow and Flash spin-off remain under wraps.
Either way, it seems that Darvill will be returning to his time-travelling roots.
