Dominic Cooper Confirmed For Preacher

Oddball comic book adaptation adds a Marvel regular.

19th April 2015 by Ryan Leston

Preacher

It’s finally official – Dominic Cooper joins Preacher after months of rumours.

The Marvel actor – who played Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger – has been rumoured to appear in Preacher for some time. We’ve heard numerous rumours which linked him to the eponymous role… and now it looks as though he’s switched sides, heading over to DC for the upcoming TV series.

Batman V Superman Trailer Officially Revealed

Appearing on Twitter, executive producer Seth Rogen revealed that Dominic Cooper would be joining the cast as the titular man of the cloth.

“We have Jesse Custer!” he said. “@dominiccoop is gonna save our souls. #Preacher”

Of course, comic book fans will no doubt remember the 6’1 Texan preacher from the comic book series of the same name.

But how will the 5’10 Dominic Cooper stack up? Well, maybe size really isn’t everything?

Preacher follows the story of Jesse Custer – a Texan preacher who becomes possessed by a supernatural entity in an event which causes the death of his entire congregation and flattens his entire church. But it seems the entity isn’t all bad – the product of the unnatural coupling between an angel and a demon… and Custer’s newfound bond with the being imbues him with the awesome power to command the obedience of those who hear his words.

Quite a responsibility for a small town preacher.

But Dominic Cooper isn’t the only cast member to sign on for the slightly-odd project…

Michelle MacLaren Exits Wonder Woman

Dominic Cooper’s real-life girlfriend Ruth Negga is rumoured to be joining the series in the role of Tulip O’Hare – Jesse Custer’s former partner. Joseph Gilgun is also said to portray the vampire (and Custer’s best friend) Cassidy, with Ian Colletti joining as the beautifully-named Arseface.

But who else will join the odd TV series?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But landing Dominic Cooper in the title role is a rather huge deal… especially considering his former-commitment to Marvel’s Agent Carter.

Are you looking forward to the Preacher TV series? Who would you like to see alongside Dominic Cooper? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
