Drew Goddard May Direct New Spider-Man Movie

The upcoming Spider-Man reportedly nabs Drew Goddard to direct.

March 3, 2015 by Ryan Leston

Spider-Man

Drew Goddard might just be the next Spider-Man director, as he reportedly signs on for the upcoming movie.

It’s no secret that Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man deal has led to yet-another reboot of the Spider-Man franchise… and that means an entirely new direction for everyone’s favourite webslinger.

But what about the Sinister Six spin-off? It looks as though director Drew Goddard has something bigger coming his way…

New Daredevil Stills Of The Man Without Fear

According to the Latino Review, Drew Goddard has been tapped to write and direct the new Spider-Man movie… and they even have a working title.

“The thinking at the moment is that Sony will faze out all the Spidey Verse films they were developing,” they reveal. “At one point they were developing a film that was just going to be a spinoff called The Sinister Six. That’s scrapped but the big news is that the director of that film, Drew Goddard, will write and direct the Spectacular Spider Man movie.”

That’s right folks – not only will Drew Goddard write and direct the new movie, it seems that Sony will be doing away with the ‘Amazing’ franchise, opting for Spectacular Spider-Man instead.

That is, if the rumour is to be believed…

“Insiders caution that Drew Goddard doesn’t quite have the job yet,” said The Wrap. And their sources added that: “Drew has not yet met with Marvel but will soon; along with several others.”

“Other sources describe Goddard as the heavy favorite and say it’s unlikely he would pass on the project if it was officially offered to him.”

But these aren’t the only details given by the Latino Review.

“No new origin story,” they claim. “Spidey exists from the beginning, taken as a given. New actor, probably an unknown, he will be specifically based in High School and they want him to be able to grow up into the role. The thought being if this works, Spidey can do multiple trilogies for years [a la] Harry Potter.”

“A major part of the first film will involve Spider- Man fighting Iron Man and then trying to pass the ‘audition” to join the Avengers. The first film will [involve] the Sinister Six coming together with the thought to later maybe spin them off.”

Of course, Drew Goddard was poised to write and direct the presumably defunct Sinister Six movie… and has worked extensively with Marvel Studios to get their Daredevil TV series off the ground.

But if you ask me, it sounds as though he hasn’t quite landed the job… yet.

Josh Hutcherson Wants To Play Spider-Man

Obviously, he’s likely to accept the offer if given to him. After all, he has a penchant for superhero movies, and the chance to rework Spider-Man into the franchise we all want is going to be difficult to pass up.

But it sounds as though it’s not quite a done deal. We’ll keep you posted as we find out more.

The all-new Spider-Man movie heads to cinemas on 28 July 2017.

Do you think Drew Goddard is the right man for the job? What do you think of the Spectacular Spider-Man title? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
