It’s official – Dwayne Johnson has revealed that he will return in Fast and Furious 8.
During a press conference for San Andreas (via Collider), the former-WWF star was asked whether his character Hobbs would be back for the upcoming sequel.
“Of course,” he said. “It can’t go on without Hobbs.”
Obviously, that’s great news for fans of The Rock as well as the Fast and Furious franchise. After all, he and Vin Diesel are the big name stars of the show.
But I get the feeling this was always inevitable.
Of course, there’s also been lots of talk about a potential Hobbs spin-off, starring Johnson in some capacity. Originally rumoured to be scheduled sometime between the sixth and seventh movies, the rumoured spin-off still hasn’t seen the light of day.
But it could still be on the cards.
“We all are interested in it,” he revealed. “I just had a big conversation with the studio. So we’ll see. I still think for me personally we’ve created a little bit of space for him in 7 and the gauge is set for what the audience will want. That’s my take on it, you know, but a lot of other people have to have input.”
Whether or not the Hobbs spin-off will ever be made remains to be seen… but with Fast & Furious 8 in the pipeline, I get the feeling it’ll be a long time before the studio gets moving. And that’s even if they intend to push forward with the project.
But for now, at least we know we’ll see Hobbs once more.
