Although Dylan O’Brien was recently linked to the upcoming Spider-Man movie, it seems the rumours may have been a bit exaggerated.
“Professionally, I haven’t heard anything about it,” he revealed in an interview with BuzzFeed. “I’ve only heard from, like, [rumours] online.”
Of course, the 23-year-old star of The Maze Runner had been pegged as one of the leading contenders for the role of Spider-Man alongside Logan Lerman. But it seems there’s no truth to the rumours.

But with Marvel and Sony coming together to create the upcoming movie, there’s plenty of interest on all sides… and it’s easy to see how these rumours could get started. Even if Dylan O’Brien himself has no idea where it all came from.
“It feels so weird to say,” he laughed. “It’s so funny. My friends from New Jersey are calling me. They’re like, what are you not telling me, dude?! Spider-Man?!”
It’s no secret that Marvel and Sony’s recent deal has resulted in the search for a new Spider-Man. And with all eyes on the franchise as this monumental deal begins to take shape, it’s a great time for young hopefuls to put themselves forward for the part.
And let’s face it – it’s easy to see why fans might want to see Dylan O’Brien in the role.
After his impressive performance in The Maze Runner, he’s clearly able to look the part when it comes to more acrobatic roles. And that’s exactly what Marvel’s iconic webslinger really needs.
But for the time being, it looks as though O’Brien hasn’t even been approached.
“It makes me feel bad because I’m, like, disappointing a big chunk of fans across the nation,” he said. “You can tell them that it’s not true.”
Of course, the young actor would undoubtedly love to land the role of Spider-Man… but while the franchise is said to be looking for a younger actor, it seems he may be a little out of their age range.
Still, O’Brien is obviously flattered to be linked to the superhero role, and it seems he’s also rather interested in the part.
“It’s nothing but flattering,” he said. “It’s never something I would want to get myself excited about, since I know I haven’t heard about it from a professional standpoint.”

“I’ve always wanted to play Peter Parker, obviously. I feel like any actor my age, that’s, like, a big thing. And my name being tossed with Logan Lerman’s is the coolest thing ever, too. I just think that kid is f**king fantastic.”
Could Dylan O’Brien get the chance to audition? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But I personally think he’d make an excellent choice for Peter Parker.
The all-new Spider-Man movie heads to cinemas on 28 July 2017.
