After Captain Marvel was announced for 2018, it looks as though Emily Blunt is keen on nabbing the title role… and the fans might just be behind her.
It’s no secret that Emily Blunt is one of the fan favourites when it comes to the upcoming Captain Marvel. Along with Katee Sackhoff, she’s been mentioned time and again for the upcoming solo movie. But would she really be interested in the role? It looks as though she just might…
During an interview with Screen Crush, the 31-year-old British actress revealed that she’s already heard the internet buzz about Captain Marvel… and with a strong fan backing, it seems she’s open to suiting up.
“I think, it’s always for me, it’s always about—and now, more so—what am I putting out there,” she said. “What would be interesting for me and what would be interesting for people to see? So, if it’s an awesome part, it doesn’t matter if it’s a Marvel movie or a tiny movie, I’d be up for it.”
Of course, at this stage it’s just wishful thinking. Blunt quickly admitted that there has been no official discussions between herself and Marvel Studios… but if you ask me, it’s only a matter of time. Between the internet buzz and her recent performance in Edge of Tomorrow I can’t help thinking she’d be perfect for Captain Marvel. Let’s just hope Marvel Studios are on the same page.
Either way, it looks as though Blunt has already heard that she’s been connected with the upcoming comic book movie… and joked that perhaps it could be turned into a musical.
“Let’s just call Marvel about that right now,” she joked. “We’ll call Kevin Feige about that. ‘Kevin Feige, we have one hell of an idea.’ Yeah…”
Now, this isn’t the first time that Emily Blunt has been linked to a Marvel role. She also happened to be up for the part of Black Widow in Avengers Assemble – a part which eventually went to none other than Scarlett Johansson.
But since then, Marvel fans have been keen to see Emily Blunt appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And this might just be the right time to do it…
I can’t help thinking that Emily Blunt would make a truly awesome Captain Marvel. We recently saw her kicking alien ass in Edge of Tomorrow and she’s certainly proved herself to be capable of a more action-focussed role.
But will Emily Blunt get the chance to suit up? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But she’d look pretty awesome in the classic Captain Marvel costume.
Captain Marvel heads to cinemas on 6 July 2018.
