Emily Blunt Turned Down Two Marvel Roles

Emily Blunt admits that she turned down two Marvel roles… but will she star as Captain Marvel?

1st January 2015 by Ryan Leston

Emily Blunt turned down 2 Marvel roles

After rumours that Emily Blunt may be up for the role of Captain Marvel, she admits that she hasn’t yet been offered the part… and reveals that she turned down two other Marvel roles.

Ever since Captain Marvel was officially announced, there’s one name that fans have been desperate to see in the title role – Emily Blunt. But while rumours soon began circling that she may have been approached, it looks as though she hasn’t been officially offered the role.

And she admits that she has already turned down two others…

Avengers: Age Of Ultron Almost Featured Abomination?

During an interview with Vulture, the 31-year-old British actress explained that she hasn’t been approached for the upcoming Captain Marvel movie… and she has no idea where the rumours came from.

“No one’s offered me that officially, so it’s… very unofficial,” she said. “I think it’s fan-casting, which is always very nice. But nothing official has been offered, for sure. If I get it, thank Meryl [Streep] for it!”

Of course, the fact that she states that she’s not been offered the role ‘officially’ makes us wonder whether or not she’s been tentatively approached by Marvel Studios. After all, with such an incredibly positive reaction from the fans, perhaps they’d be inclined to consider her for the part.

But it also seems that Blunt has a history of shrugging off their offers.

“It was never the right time, really,” she said after revealing that she’s been offered the role of both Black Widow and Agent Peggy Carter. “It just didn’t work out scheduling-wise with those two. It’s always a difficult thing to talk about, because it’s not fair to the actresses who ended up playing them, you know? It just wasn’t the right time.”

But is it the right time for her to join the MCU as Captain Marvel?

As far as we know, Emily Blunt’s schedule is pretty open so far in the lead up to Captain Marvel’s 2018 release date… and perhaps getting her to sign on the dotted line this early is the key to getting her on board.

Either way, I can’t help thinking that Marvel is probably interested in her involvement. But will she appear as Captain Marvel? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

Do you think Captain Marvel will eventually star Emily Blunt? Can Marvel convince her to sign up for the role? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
