It’s been over 30 years since the first Evil Dead graced our screens… and now Ash is back in the all-new horror TV series, ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead’.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead will return in an all-new TV series…
“Starz is bringing Evil Dead to TV,” they revealed. “The premium network has greenlighted an original series that will serve as a follow-up to the horror comedy film franchise, Ash vs. Evil Dead.”
And that’s not all – it looks as though original star Bruce Campbell will be back.
“Original Evil Dead director Sam Raimi, producer Rob Tapert and star Bruce Campbell will return for the 10-episode half-hour series, slated for a 2015 premiere.”
The original Evil Dead was a low-budget horror classic and starred Bruce Campbell as Ash – a university student who heads to a cabin in the woods with several friends. Of course, it all takes a turn for the worse, resulting in demonic possessions, dismemberment and discovery of the infamous Necronomicon.
“Evil Dead has always been a blast,” said director Sam Raimi. “Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”
But what’s this new series all about? It looks as though a brief synopsis might give us some clues about Ash’s next adventure.
“Campbell reprises his role as the title character Ash, a stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last three decades avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead,” they explain. “When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons — personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its evil grip.”
Will it be any good? For now, we have to wait and see. But I get the feeling this could be something very special indeed.
