After months of waiting, The Fantastic Four finally gives us our first look at The Thing… and I have to admit – it’s rather impressive.
It’s no secret that The Thing has been notably absent from the Fantastic Four marketing so far. We’ve already seen good close-up shots of Mr Fantastic, the Human Torch and even the Invisible Woman… but The Thing – aka Ben Grimm – has so far eluded us.
That is, until now…
Unveiled by the folks at Empire Magazine, these awesome new stills give us a better look at the upcoming Fantastic Four… and most importantly, our first look at The Thing in all his glory.

Transported to an alternate dimension while conducting an experiment with the US military, the Fantastic Four are imbued with super powers. But while previous movies have depicted this change as an entirely positive experience, it looks as though it’s going to be a lot tougher this time around.
Forced to cope with their transformations, it seems poor ben has the worst of it – physically transformed into a hunk of walking, talking rock.
And with Jamie Bell donning a motion capture suit for the Fantastic Four, it’s a million miles away from Michael Chiklis and his rather rubbish rubber suit from the 2005 and 2007 films.
But it seems Jamie Bell might be approaching it with the same sense of heart…
“Jamie in real life is a tough guy,” said director Josh Trank. “He exudes this strength. Ben is Reed’s best friend in the archetypal, spiritual way, and you want that character to have that warmth and that strength.”
Back to The Thing’s new look, I can’t help thinking it’s a huge step forward. And while it might not be 100% perfect, it seems to be the best visual depiction of The Thing we’ve seen on the big screen so far.
Will the rest of the gang be just as good? And will we see them in the classic blue jumpsuits? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Fantastic Four heads to cinemas on 6 August 2015.
