Adrianne Palicki is yet to grace UK screens as Bobbi Morse. But we could see a lot more of her as she suits up as Mockingbird for the second series of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
After being cast as Bobbi Morse in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. it looks as though Adrianne Palicki has made her Marvel debut. But while we’re yet to see her appear in the new season, it looks as though we’ve already got a glimpse of what Mockingbird will look like in her rather awesome new costume.
“Bobbi Morse is a well-seasoned spy whose ability to slip in and out of undercover situations seamlessly will prove invaluable to our team,” said Executive Producer, Jed Whedon. “But her appearance comes as a gut-punch to Hunter, as the history they share is complicated to say the least.”
Of course, comic book fans will no doubt be aware that Mockingbird has a long history with Clint Barton (aka Hawkeye) whom she eventually married… but whether or not this subplot will make it into Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. remains to be seen.
Still, she’s looking pretty awesome isn’t she?
“I looked at all of her comic appearances and really wanted to try to bring elements of the look from the comics into the costume that we’re doing now for the show because I know it’s important to the fans,” said costume designer Ann Foley. “It’s important to me to keep certain elements, but we had to change it, obviously, for practicality, because it had to fit into our world. It had to have a kind of tactical feeling to it too so that it made sense in our universe.”
Obviously the key difference is Mockingbird’s more tactical look… but while there may be a marked difference in style, it seems Marvel is keen to hint at the looks from the comic books.
“She’s got rivets that are in the straps across her chest, and those are there as a tribute to the buttons that go down the side of her [most recent] costume [in the comics], as well as the colors that we were using, [which] are a tribute as well.”
“Her colors are navy blue and white with a little bit of black in there, [but] white would not have been pretty on camera so we changed it to grey. [We] still tried to maintain the original style of what was in the comic book because [with] that white panel that goes up her center and down her legs, [so] we’ve mirrored that in her costume but in gray instead of white.”
Bobbi Morse will appear in full tactical suit on next week’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D… in the US at least. But for now, we’ll have to hang on before we see her in action.
