Oddball horror game Five Nights At Freddy’s is getting the big screen treatment… as Warner Bros. picks up the rights.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 2014 indie videogame title has been picked up by Warner Bros.
And it’s being turned into its very own movie.
“Warner Bros. has picked up the rights to Five Nights at Freddy’s, the popular video game series created by Scott Cawthon,” they revealed. “The feature adaptation will be produced by Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment as well as Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions.”
Five Nights At Freddy’s is already a popular indie horror video game series.
The player lands the job of night security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza – a restaurant which operates animatronic animals that unfortunately tend to go on a killing rampage during the night.
The aim of the game is to survive five nights at the restaurant… with a sixth night usually unlocked as a bonus level.

But it looks as though Warner Bros. sees some potential as a survival horror movie.
“We’re looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie,” said producer Grahame-Smith. And it certainly sounds like one of the more original horror adaptations in recent years.
“The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to,” said videogame creator, Scott Cawthon.
But how will it translate to the big screen?
The original game is set during the 1980s.
But it’s unknown whether the film adaptation will embrace these particular details. “The project is currently out to writers,” says THR. But I can’t help thinking that a good old ‘80s setting would be perfect for this movie.
In fact, perhaps a slightly over-the-top style would work well – mimicking the retro classics of the horror genre.
Will it be any good? For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but it sounds like fun, either way.
