George Lucas Not Bothered By Star Wars VII Trailer

Star Wars: The Force Awakens ignites a cool first trailer.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, George Lucas created the Star Wars trilogy. But what does he think of the new The Force Awakens trailer? Well… not much.

Although the entire world has been pre-occupied with this first look at 88-seconds of the new Star Wars film, it seems that George Lucas couldn’t really care less. And he even admits, he hasn’t gotten rounds to watching it yet.

During an interview with Page Six, the 70-year-old Star Wars creator seems as though he’s really not that bothered about the new sequel trilogy.

“I don’t know anything about it,” he said when they quizzed him on the recently released trailer. “I haven’t seen it yet.”

And rather oddly, it looks as though he has no intention of watching it for some time.

“Because it’s not in the movie theatre,” he said when asked why he hadn’t seen it yet. “I like going to the movies and watching the whole thing there… I plan to see it when it’s released.”

Of course, with a release date of 18 December 2015, that’s only about a year away. But still, I can’t help thinking I’d be dandling by a thread if it was my multi-billion dollar franchise that now rested in the hands of another creative team.

Around a year ago, George’s son Jett Lucas revealed that his father had been “constantly talking to J.J.,” and that “J.J. was handpicked.” But now, when asked if he was curious to see what Abrams had done with his creations, he simply replied: “Not really.”

It’s certainly a weird attitude to take, but with Disney deciding what happens in the galaxy far, far away, perhaps it’s best for him to just walk away without giving it a second thought. But with rumours that George Lucas had already completed a number of sequel scripts, I can’t help wondering how much of these ended up being used… and perhaps that’s why he’s not that interested.

Either way, it’s a strange state of affairs. I just can’t help wondering what he’d think of that new lightsaber…

What do you think of George Lucas’ comments? Would you want to know everything that was going on with your creations? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
