Gillian Anderson Quits The X-Files After Season 11

The X-Files are closed… for Gillian Anderson, at least.

That’s right – Scully is quitting The X-Files.

During an interview with TV Insider, the 49-year-old X-Files star confirmed that she’s leaving the show after the upcoming Season 11.

“I’ve said from the beginning this is it for me,” she explained. “I was a bit surprised by people’s [shocked] reaction to my announcement…because my understanding was that this was a single season.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time Anderson has revealed she’s leaving the show.

In fact, she already revealed her plans to leave The X-Files behind her back in October 2017… but now she confirms that she really is done. This is it. There won’t be another return after the end of the next season.

“No, no, I think this will be it for me,” she said at the time.

But the folks at Fox were quick to shoot down any official confirmation that Anderson was leaving… perhaps hoping to eventually win her round. They claimed that Anderson had “not commented on returning as it’s premature in that she is currently filming the new event series.”

Now, it looks as though she’s all but finished.

But will she go out with a bang?

By the end of the last season of The X-Files, everything changed. Mulder and Scully had blown open the conspiracy to end all conspiracies… and with the world targeted by nefarious individuals co-operating with a sinister alien race, it looked as though humanity’s time was up.

Most importantly, Mulder and Scully were in the firing line, too.

Although Scully was protected from a global biological attack by her alien DNA, only she can save Mulder using the stem cells of their son William, whom she gave up for adoption 14 years ago.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get anymore dire, Scully finds herself targeted by the beam of an alien mothership.

Will Scully go down fighting? And will she save Mulder?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
