Although TV’s Gotham already boasts a rather hefty cast of classic Batman characters, another of Bruce Wayne’s allies from the DC archives will be joining them… played by Morena Baccarin.
According to Deadline Hollywood, the 35-year-old Brazilian actress has joined the ranks of TV’s Gotham… and it sounds as though she’s landed a pretty substantial role.
“She will play Dr. Leslie Thompkins, a gifted and dedicated physician who was a friend of Bruce Wayne’s parents, Thomas and Martha,” they reveal. “She is determined to use her skills to aid Gotham’s most in need, which currently means working at the newly opened Arkham Asylum’s Home for the Criminally Insane.
Of course, Arkham Asylum is one of the most iconic location of Gotham City… and has housed almost all of Batman’s foes at one time or another. And Dr Thompkins herself has also been a big part of the comic book universe – serving as a counterpoint to Alfred when it comes to surrogate parents for young Bruce.
“In addition to her medical skills, her coolness under pressure will serve her well as she finds herself drawn close to James Gordon and into more and more dangerous waters.”
It’s certainly an interesting addition to the cast of Gotham but quite how her role will play out on screen remains to be seen. But one thing’s for certain – with an increasingly awesome cast and huge variety of iconic Batman characters, Gotham is really one for the fans.
