It’s all golems and weeping walls on Grimm this week as the show takes a rather odd turn. But first, we’re thrown straight back into last week’s cliff hanger…
It looks as though Monroe and Rosalee are in some kind of trouble. And those sinister masked men seem to be delivering something to the newly-weds – a good old-fashioned brick through their window. Marked with the symbol of Wolfsangel, it’s a rather unsettling find… and it seems that some not-so-friendly Wesen really aren’t keen on mixed marriages.
Elizabeth explains this is a warning, from a group of radical Wesen who only approve of pure blood marriages.
Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg for poor Monroe and Rosalee. First, their wedding ends in carnage, now they’re being singled out by a radical hate group. What’s next? I really hope nothing comes of this threat, and we get to see more of the cute couple.
But I get the feeling it’s not quite that simple.
Back at Nick’s place, Trubel is missing. Her room has been cleared out and there’s no indication of her whereabouts. Obviously Nick and Juliette are concerned – they’ve clearly grown fond of the young, new Grimm and it’s out of character for her not to let them know.
But has she taken Chavez up on her offer?
Thankfully, it seems she’s stowed away in Nick’s trailer… which is where he finds her. Trubel explains her abduction and that she feared for Nick and Juliette’s safety. It’s rather touching that she thinks so much of them. After all, Chavez is a formidable character and maybe she’s wise to proceed with caution.
In fact, this whole event highlights her feelings for Nick and Juliette. She clearly cares for the couple as much as they do for her. It’s is a nice touch and reassures us that Team Grimm will be sticking together for the foreseeable future.
Meanwhile, we’re introduced to the monster of the week. Interestingly, this episode focuses on a supernatural being from Jewish Folklore – a Golem.
Summoned by a Rabbi to protect his sister and nephew, David, the monster engulfs her abusive ex-husband (who turns out to be a Siegbarste) in clay and suffocates him. The trouble is, the Rabbi doesn’t know how to call off the monster… and soon, anyone who threatens David finds themselves at the mercy of the clay monstrosity.
However, after Trubel helps David find his inner strength, he is able to defeat the Golem just in time, as the beast begins to turn on her. It was quite a poignant moment to see Trubel help the boy face his demons, as we know she was haunted by her own as a child.
Back at the Precinct, the Captain returns and is looking on top form again. Wu takes the opportunity to raise his concerns about Trubel. Although he confesses to the Captain that he doesn’t like going over peoples heads, he explains he has little choice given that Nick is always avoiding him.
Does this mean we could see Trubel arrested soon? Will the Captain find out she’s a Grimm? Will Nick finally come clean with Wu?
These are questions which have been looming for some time now, and I’m not sure how long they can keep us in suspense…
Elsewhere in Vienna, Adalind has managed to break out of her cell. It appears she was assisted by a stranger who offers her food… once again it seems that she has been deceived. She begins hallucinating (likely from the food) and starts to see faces appearing in the walls claiming to know where her baby is.
It’s all fairly ludicrous, and she is left drowning in their tears… yeah.
Hopefully this storyline wraps up rather quickly, as it’s becoming a little ridiculous. Besides, it would be good to see her back in Portland facing the heat for her actions.
Of course, back in the city, Elizabeth is still working on fixing Adalind’s mess with a handy counter-spell. And it seems she’s made a breakthrough when she tricks Monroe into believing that she is Adalind. Rosalee soon realises it’s a spell, and they all chuckle as Elizabeth apologises for borrowing Monroe’s shirt – “I just felt a little sluttier as Adalind”.
But the episode ends with Elizabeth dropping a bombshell – the vital ingredient for her spell is Juliette. But what does this mean? Will Juliette overcome her issues with Nick’s Grimm life and help them find a cure? We’ll have to wait and see…
