This week’s Grimm conjures up memories of Christmas trees and fruit cake, as the team tackle three little Grinches causing havoc around a festive Portland.
Monroe’s place resembles Santa’s Grotto, and this year Rosalee is trying to get into the spirit too. Rather romantically, he sends and invitation to her via his antique train set, asking her to join him on a belated honey moon. However, the moment she accepts, the train derails.
Could this be a sign that the couple’s long awaited trip away is doomed yet again? Things aren’t looking good with the threat of the blood purity organisation still looming over them.
Elsewhere in Portland, some Grinch-like wesen are ruining people’s holiday… and as a young couple head to bed after a Christmas party, all is not as it seems.
Little do they know a gift delivered earlier that evening contained a little Grinch waiting to burst out and ruin their Christmas. Woken by the noise, young Dennis investigates and the creatures turn on him. Nick and Hank are sent in to investigate the attack and suspect unruly wesen have been out to play…
The team discover that the Grinches are actually the children of Indole Gentile. On rare occasions their children, who are going through puberty, turn into Kallikantzors. This lasts for twelve days during the festive period, which is plenty of time to cause mayhem. Thankfully for the team, the Grinches have one vice… fruit cake!
Nick and the gang set a fruit cake trap and capture the children before they can continue on their destructive rampage through Portland. No harm is done and Monroe comically states; “wow, so there’s actually a reason for fruit cake.”
Back at the trailer, Nick, Hank and Trubel are doing some research on the Secundum Naturae Ordinem Wesen and there is some grim talk of tribunals and burning at the stake… could this be a hint about what’s in store for the unfortunate couple?
Josh and Trubel try to dig a little deeper, heading out early to check on Shaw. Trubel suspects he is the reason the organisation found out about Monroe and Rosalee’s wedding, after Bud let it slip. Josh manages to knock out a Schakal with a brick, to save Trubel at it attacks her. They also discover one of the masks used by the group on the unconscious wesen, and rush back to tell all to Nick.
It looks as though Josh is really starting to find his strength. He may not be a Grimm like his father, but he’s certainly proving he’s capable of taking on the wesen world. He saved Trubel, the toughest Grimm on the block, so that’s got to count for something!
At the precinct, Renard tells Nick that Elizabeth has left and is seeking out his mother. The pair are concerned that their mothers will try and kill each other (perhaps justifiably so), and attempt to find an amicable solution. He also quizzes Nick about Sergeant Wu, who is closing in on their secret.
But how will Nick tell Wu about being a Grimm?
I think it is high time he found a way – Wu has been kept in the dark for way too long and is clearly at breaking point. I only hope it isn’t too late to preserve their friendship. Sgt Wu’s quick wit is a great addition to the show and would be hard to replace if he moved away from the team.
The comical tone of the episode changes as Juliette buckles over with another stomach cramp at Monroe’s house. Rosalee wonders if she could be pregnant. Juliette doubts it, but soon panic’s that it could have been when she transformed into Adalind. Rosalee tries to comfort her and suggests she takes a test.
But the most shocking aspect of the episode is yet to come… as we also say goodbye to Trubel.
After becoming a kick-ass addition to the team, she leaves to join Josh on his trip to Philadelphia in an effort to claim his life back and take on the Hundjager.
It’s clear how attached she is to the gang, because she can’t bring herself to say goodbye to everybody, instead asking Nick to explain to them after she’s gone. It’s sad to see Trubel leave – she was just establishing herself as a strong lead character in the show. However, Nick tells her she can always come back and I think she may take him up on that offer in the future.
The episode ends on a cliff hanger, with Juliette nervously awaiting the results of her pregnancy test… but what would that even mean>
What do you think Grimmsters, could Juliette be pregnant? Is this the last we’ll see of Trubel? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
