After starring alongside Iron Man himself in Marvel‘s recent Iron Man 3 it looks as though Gwyneth Paltrow worries that she’ll soon be replaced…
Iron Man 3 saw Pepper Potts take centre stage as she took over the running of Stark Industries… and after donning the Iron Man suit as well as gaining her own powers thanks to Killian’s research, it looks as though Gwyneth Paltrow is becoming quite the action hero. But will she return in future instalments?
It looks as though she’s not so sure…
During an interview with TV3, the 37-year-old actress explained that she’d love to return in another Iron Man movie… but fears being axed from the role in favour of a younger Pepper Potts.
“I don’t know,” she said. “I’d like to do it. But they might swap me out for an 18-year-old Pepper Potts or something.” She then added that she thinks her career was “a lot of good luck and a lot of hard work and a lot of being in the right place at the right time.”
Of course, unless you’re Hugh Jackman, you can’t play the same role forever… and perhaps the lack of an upcoming Iron Man 4 in Marvel’s Phase Three plans is enough for Paltrow to wonder about her future at the studio.
But for the time being, I can’t help thinking that her role as Pepper Potts is safe. That is, if Pepper is going to appear at all.
However, there’s currently very little reason for Pepper to be around. Avengers: Age of Ultron is perhaps the most obvious place to see Paltrow appear, but we’ve already heard that she won’t feature in the upcoming Avengers sequel.
And with the rest of the Phase Three slate moving away from these established heroes, it looks as though there aren’t many opportunities for a cameo.
But what about Captain America: Civil War?
If you ask me, it’s the only other Marvel movie where Pepper Potts would fit right in. After all, with Tony Stark and Steve Rogers going head-to-head, Iron Man is going to need all the friends he can get. And a strong woman by his side could well turn the tide.
Will Paltrow appear in the upcoming Cap sequel? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But judging from her waning enthusiasm, it looks as though she hasn’t even been approached.
