Hitman: Agent 47 Trailer Released

Agent 47 is heading to the big screen in Hitman: Agent 47.

February 11, 2015 by Ryan Leston

Hitman: Agent 47 | Official Trailer 2 [HD] | 20th Century FOX

Although we’ve heard very little about Hitman: Agent 47, it looks as though the new trailer has exploded onto our screens… but I’m not sure it’s much to get excited about.

It’s not long since the last Hitman adaptation headed to our screens… and with Timothy Olyphant in the title role, it wasn’t exactly met with resounding applause. Honestly, it wasn’t so bad – if you ignore the fact that it was nothing at all like the game it was based upon.

But will Hitman: Agent 47 be any different?

Classic SEGA Games Heading To The Big Screen

At first glance, the loud, explosive, over-the-top trailer fills me with dread. As a fan of the video game series, I can’t help wondering whether anyone involved with this movie has ever played the video games.

We’re treated to a glimpse of Agent 47 stealing a police officer’s clothes… and that’s about as close as we get to the stealth subtlety of the game. Aside from that, it’s explosive action, generic car chases and over-the-top combat.

In fact, the first time we see 47 in action, he manages to dodge a sniper rifle bullet at point blank range while putting his shackles directly in its path. That’s right – he breaks out of his chains using the very bullet that should have killed him.

If you can stand to sit through that, there’s a bunch of generic action sequences to follow… none of which manage to capture the selling point of the game franchise – subtlety. In fact, much like the previous Hitman movie, we’re shown too much action and not enough thought.

Sonic The Hedgehog Sequel In The Works

Oh and another pretty girl to save.

Essentially, it feels like another misguided attempt to appease action-film fanatics, by using the premise of a game that’s so much more than that.

Of course, we’ll have to see how it all plays out on the big screen. But personally, I’m not holding out much hope.

Hitman: Agent 47 heads to cinemas on 28 August 2015.
