Hollyoaks Star Eyed For Supergirl?

Gemma Atkinson is reportedly being considered for Supergirl.

2nd January 2015 by Ryan Leston

Supergirl is heading to our TV screen soon.

British actress Gemma Atkinson is up for the role of Supergirl but will she really land the role or is her Hollyoaks past a case of career Kryptonite?

Although little is known about the upcoming Supergirl series, it’s been expected for some time… after all, the Man of Steel laid the groundwork with its Supergirl Easter Egg, and it wasn’t long before promotional material brought in Kara Zor-El to the DC universe.

But who will land the coveted role?

According to UK tabloid The Sun, it looks as though the 30-year-old former Hollyoaks star has auditioned for the role of Superman’s cousin in the upcoming Supergirl TV show.

“Former Hollyoaks babe Gemma Atkinson could be the new Supergirl in a major US TV series,” they reveal. “The actress is waiting to hear whether she has been cast as the lead in a CBS show based on the 1984 film.”

Of course, the Supergirl solo series has been up for discussion for some time… and if the rumours are to be believed, Gemma Atkinson has been in for an audition.

But can we really believe it?

Let’s face it – The Sun isn’t exactly the most cast-iron source when it comes to comic book movie news… and while the likes of Michelle Ryan have given up the life of the British soap opera in attempt to make it stateside, it seems to be a fairly tough gig.

“Gemma is a huge fan of comic books so this is something she’d jump at. It will make her huge Stateside,” said their source. “She said next year will be her best yet whatever happens. If she gets Supergirl it will be amazing or if she begins working on Emmerdale that will be great too.”

Of course, Atkinson isn’t the first name to be attached to the upcoming Supergirl series… and it seems she’ll be up against the young talent of Claire Holt – best known for her role in The Vampire Diaries.

And if you ask me, it’s Holt who’s much more in line with the typical image of Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El.

But will either of them land the role? For now, we’ll have to wait and see…

Do you think Gemma Atkinson is in with a chance? Who would you like to see suit up as Supergirl Let us know in the comments below…
